This is just a small selection of the best digital products to sell this year, based on what I’ve seen going on in the market. If you’d like more ideas, make sure to snag this free list of 55 Digital Product Ideas that you can make in a weekend.
I’ll be the first to admit, I love a good digital product. Not only have I been making and selling my own for over 7 years (they make up about 75% of my income these days) but I’m also obsessed with buying them. Some people love shoes, others cars, for me it’s all about e-books and Lightroom presets.
Because I spend so much time immersed in the digital product space, I’ve been able to spot a few changes over the past year. The landscape has changed considerably and a lot of things that were working really well pre-pandemic most likely aren’t working now.
Here are 7 of the best digital products to sell in 2021.
The Best Digital Products to Sell in 2021
Digital product trends come and go. But if you’re looking to start making money quickly, here are 7 hugely profitable digital trends you can capitalize on in 2021.
[Now, before you say, what about [insert digital product here]?, these are just the products I’ve noticed on my adventures in internet-land. This isn’t an all-inclusive list by any means. So, if you’ve seen any other digital products trending, let me know in the comments and I’ll add ‘em to the list!]Résumé Templates
This goes without saying, but 2020 was a rough year.
With so many people either laid off or furloughed, sales of job-seeking tools, like résumé templates, cover letters, business cards and professional website themes, took off. Although the economy is recovering and more and more people are heading back to the office, resume templates are still hugely popular in 2021.
One thing I love about résumés is that, unlike some of the trendier e-products, résumés are evergreen. And once this pandemic-induced frenzy is over, you’re not going to have to start over from scratch. You can fully expect résumé template sales to keep making good money for years to come.
Fonts
Fonts have been big for a while now and they show no signs of going anywhere anytime soon. While they’re not something you can start selling in a weekend, the steep learning curves means you’re unlike to face a ton of competition.
To see which kinds of fonts are popular right now, just scroll through Creative Market’s font homepage. As of today, modern serif fonts and hand-lettered script fonts make up most of the top sellers.
SVG Files
SVG, also known as scalable vector graphic, files have been a mainstay of the design world for years. But they’ve recently entered digital product territory thanks to the invention of craft cutting machines, like Cricut and Silhouette.
Once cut, the designs can be used for clothing, hair bows, earrings, labels, you name it.
Canva Templates
Over the past several months, I’ve been seeing Canva templates everywhere: the front page of CreativeMarket, my Etsy seller emails, and on Instagram.
If you’re not familiar with it, Canva [add affiliate link] is a template-based design software that allows you to create professional looking graphics without having to learn a complicated software (ahem, Adobe Illustrator). Oh, and it’s free – a major plus.
From what I’ve seen, the most popular Canva templates are workbook layouts, Instagram Stories, Pinterest pins, and ebook design templates. But there’s bound to be a market for just about any Canva templates you make.
Product Mockups
A product mockup is a way of showing customers what a final product looks like without having to photograph the product itself. People often use them for digital products that are difficult to photograph as well as for items that are frequently drop shipped, like clothing, wall art and home décor.
Device mockups, such as computer screens, tablets and iPhones, are hugely popular. As are packaging, wall art, clothing and mood board mockups.
Like with resume templates, this is another industry that I consider evergreen. Online business isn’t going anywhere, and that means product mockups (and their cousins, product stock photography and scene creators) aren’t either.
Lightroom Presets
Presets allow you to edit photos with the click of a button and achieve a uniform look or feel in your photography. And thanks to Instagram, presets have taken off.
Even as a photographer, I’m a sucker for Lightroom presets – and I know firsthand that there’s a huge market for well-designed, well-tested preset bundles.
That being said, you don’t have to be a professional photographer to create and sell your own presets. You simply need an understanding of Adobe Lightroom and a willingness to test your presets so they work on a variety of different images.
Low-Cost Education Products
Education products like e-books, courses and tutorials have always been big sellers. But the 2020 economic collapse made it so that most people were unable to drop hundreds or thousands of dollars on a course. Instead, bite-size education products priced anywhere from $7 to $99 took off.
If you choose to focus on education products this year, creating smaller, low-cost courses and ebooks is a great way to break into the market and get your feet wet without investing too much time and money upfront.
