How to Create a Wedding Hashtag When You Have Zero Ideas
I’ve seen my fair share of wedding hashtags over the years–from the good to the bad to the downright terrible. They’re plastered on social media, printed at the bottom of menus, and displayed front and center on giant signs by the bar. I totally get it, what better way to capture all the love from your wedding in one place than with a catchy phrase that speaks to you as a couple?
But for stressed brides, crafting a punny hashtag is easier said than done. There’s so much pressure to make it unique, clever and fun. And on top of that you’re supposed to incorporate your names, wedding date, inside jokes from your first date, your mother’s maiden name….
Well not really, but sometimes it feels that way when you’re trying to come up with one! Luckily it doesn’t have to be that hard. Read on and I’ll show you how to create a hashtag for your wedding, the easy way.
How to Create a Wedding Hashtag When You’re Completely Stuck
Email your closest friends and family
No one, and I mean no one, knows you quite like your friends and family. So who better to create a punny hashtag that fits your personality and pokes fun at your name (with love, of course)? Send a group email to your favorite people asking for their help and see what they come up with. I guarantee there will at least be a couple of keepers in the mix, but if not, we’ve got some other options…
Make a game of it
I’ve been to more than one bridal shower where they ask everyone to drop their best wedding hashtags in an anonymous box. Then everyone laughs uproariously when they’re read out loud at the end of the night.
The beauty of this is that it’s anonymous, so the gloves come off and you get some hilarious entries. Plus, if you award a prize (a $20 Target gift card, let’s say) you’ll have tons of great ideas to choose from.
Use a hashtag generator
This is the easiest option, by far, but you won’t end up with a lot of fun puns that speak to you as a couple. Just search “wedding hashtag generator” on Google and you should get a few options to play around with.
Search for wedding hashtags on Instagram
Social media is a goldmine of wedding hashtag ideas. Start by typing in the first few letters of your last name on Instagram and see what auto-fills. Then do the same for your fiance’s last name. Make note of any ideas you like and want to use as a jumping off point.
Pay someone to do it for you
If you’re desperate and have a little extra cash to spend, why not hire a hashtag writer. Just look on UpWork for a copywriter with wedding experience or head to Happily Ever Hashtagged to hire a bonafide wedding hashtag writer. Pay for a single hashtag or up the ante with different hashtags for all your different events. It’s up to you!
