Where to Find Stock Photos + Mockups for Your Digital Products
I’m a huge believer in taking photos of your own digital products. But when you’re just getting started, the fewer things standing between you and your product launch, the better. That’s when you may want to find mockups for your digital products rather than make your own images.
I think we can all agree, done is always better than perfect, right?
These are some of my favorite places to find attractive, non-cheesy stock photos and mockups for digital products.
Where to find stock photos and mockups for your digital products
If you don’t know the difference between stock photos, mockups and generators, here’s a quick rundown:
Stock Photos
Photos, often sold as either JPGs or PNGS, that have white space where you can overlay your own in design in Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or any other photo editing software. These are best for beginners because you can use them in drag-and-drop software like Canva, without having a ton of in depth photo-editing knowledge.
Mockups
The term is kind of nebulous, but these can be photos (like stock photos mentioned above) or they can be computer-generated graphics that look like the real thing (a 3D eBook, for instance), but aren’t an actual photograph. Often you need Photoshop in order to access the layers and add realistic shadows, change colors, and customize it to look like your own product.
Generators
Also called “Scene Creators”, these are Photoshop-based scenes that come with movable objects so you can create your own life-like flat lay image. This ‘Flatlay Creator’ from Creative Market comes with over 100 objects that you can arrange (using Photoshop) to look like an actual flat lay. The good thing about generators is that you can create an infinite number of unique mockups without having to pay money for each individual photo, like you would with stock photos.
All 3 can be used to create images of your digital products without requiring you to take actual product photos.
But if you’re a beginner and don’t have access to Photoshop, then you’re going to want to look for stock photos (sometimes called “photo mockups”) in JPG or PNG format.
These can be edited with Canva or some other basic photo editing software and don’t require much skill to get started.
Note: some marketplaces, like Etsy, require you to use photos of the actual product. This can be a gray area for digital products because there’s usually no physical product to take pictures of. If you’re selling printables and you decide to go the stock photo route, make sure the size and color look like they do when printed to cut down on customer complaints.
Creative Market
Creative Market is a great place to buy design elements, such as fonts, logos, vector graphics and social media templates. But what a lot of people don’t know is that you can also score a great deal on stock photos, mockups and generators that look unique and incredibly professional.
If you only need one or two bundles to create the photos for digital products, then this is a great way to go. Buying individual photos or bundles can get pricey after a while! But if you need to create lots of different images for a wide range of products, a subscription-based services mentioned below might be a better fit.
Here are a few of my favorites:
• Frame Mockup Kit
• Office Stock Photo Bundle
• Desktop Scene Creator
• Scene Creators Bundle
• Lifestyle Photos & Mockups
Adobe Stock
I had an Adobe Stock membership for years because they don’t just specialize in stock photos, they do videos, design elements, business templates, mockups and pretty much anything else you might need for your business. And having everything in one place covered by one low monthly fee can save you a ton of money!
I did the 10 assets a month membership (the cheapest option) but if you need more assets, then you can upgrade to another membership. And what you don’t use that month rolls over to the next month, so you never really lose your assets.
It’s a great option for anyone who creates tons of content every month and who needs higher-quality stock photos or design elements.
My favorites:
• Digital Device Mockup for Course Creators
• Frame Mockup
• Fabric Mockup for Pattern Designers
• Realistic Laptop Mockup
• Magazine Mockup for Magazine, eBooks and Brochures

Canva Pro
The paid version of Canva, Canva Pro, has a large number of mockups and stock photos included in its monthly membership. The images aren’t as high-quality as what you mind find in other stock shops, but seeing as how other memberships can cost 3x the price, Canva Pro is a great option if you’re on a budget.
An added bonus of using Canva for your mockup needs is that some mockups come with Canva’s drag-and-drop grids already in place. So, all you have to do is upload your design as a PNG or JPG and drag it into the frame. Canva will size it so it fits, as best it can, and you can download it almost immediately.
If you have a lot of digital items to list, or if you want all your item photos to look the same, then this is a great way to automate the process, saving you time and money in the future.
What about Canva’s free images? While you’re free to go that route, I like my digital products to look as clean and professional as possible. Selling digital products requires you to gain your customer’s trust, and cheap, low-budget photos are a sure-fire way to turn off potential customers.
My favorites:
• Frame Photo Mockup
• Laptop on Office Desk
• Clipboard Worksheet Mockup
• Workspace Flatlay
• Simple Poster Mockup
Styled Stock House (formerly Kate Max Stock)
This is a great option if you need trendy mockups for your digital products as well as for your website and social media. You can choose from different themes, color palettes and occasions, to fit your branding. And with over a thousand photos in the archives, they have something everyone.
Styled Stock House doesn’t sell images individually, but they do offer monthly and yearly memberships where you can download as many photos as you want.
Don’t want to buy a membership? You can purchase individual bundles through Creative Market.
My favorites:
• Wedding Stock Photo Mockup Bundle
• Holiday Card Mockups
• Gender Neutral Office Bundle
• Screen Mockups
• Masculine Office Mockups
Sourced Co.
Sourced Co. has some of the dreamiest, most gorgeous stock photos I’ve ever seen. They mainly cater toward wedding professionals and creatives but you can also find all sorts of business-related stock photos, such as stationery flat lays, computer and iPad mockups, and desktop shots.
Unlike some of the other stock shops, this one is newer and a little less well-known. That means you don’t see their images everywhere and your listings aren’t going to look like everyone else’s. That will help you stand out in the market and make more sales. A win-win.
My favorites:
• Work in Progress
• Building a Dream
• Well Positioned
